After 20 years of service, David Neuendorf announced today he will retire from his position as president of SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital – Audrain on April 24, 2015.
Under Dave’s leadership, the hospital and medical clinic network have grown along with the community. Thanks to his collaborative approach, he was able to balance community and hospital needs while prioritizing and expanding much-needed health care services in Mexico and surrounding communities. This includes the creation of the J.B. and Greeta B. Arthur Cancer Center, the Jordan Waters Heart Center, expansion of the Audrain Medical Center Foundation and the search for a health system partner, which resulted in the hospital joining St. Louis-based SSM Health in April 2013.
Over the past two years, Dave has led numerous initiatives for the hospital and clinic network to support the transition to SSM Health; including a new name for the hospital and medical group, the opening of several specialty clinics, the implementation of an electronic record system and the updating and upgrading of equipment and facilities. Under his leadership, the hospital has continued to achieve top performance levels for safety and quality standards.
“I want to thank Dave personally and professionally for his leadership, both in the hospital and in the community,” said Brent VanConia, President, SSM Health of Mid-Missouri. “As we transitioned Audrain Medical Center to SSM Health, it was a time of much change, but thanks to Dave’s leadership it has been a smooth one. We wish him, his wife Lisa and their family the very best.”
Outside the hospital’s walls, Dave has made a lasting impact on the Mexico community. His ability to connect with people and forge relationships has been a hallmark of his time as President. He has served on the boards of the Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce, Mexico Area YMCA, Audrain Area United Way, Mexico Kiwanis Club, Mexico Audrain Area Information Network, Progress Mexico and the Missouri Hospital Plan.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to have had such a long career here,” said Neuendorf.
“I am proud of the staff of the hospital and clinics and the difference they have made in the health and well-being of the people we serve.”
Dave has been active in a number of professional organizations over the years, which included Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
Prior to coming to Mexico in 1995, Dave held a variety of leadership positions at Riverside Hospital in Toledo, Ohio, and the Burroughs Corporation in Detroit, Michigan.

“SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital – Audrain has a bright future ahead of it and now is the right time for me to step away and pursue some of my other interests,” said Neuendorf. “I look forward to being able to spend more time with Lisa and our family.”
SSM Health will begin a national search for Dave’s replacement immediately.  In the interim, Brent VanConia, SSM Health Regional President, will serve as President of SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital – Audrain.
