MURL O’DEAN ORR

April 21, 1923 – April 14, 2014
Born to James and Edith (Elsberry) Orr in Mexico, Missouri, Dean was the second of five boys. He was preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Burl Orr and Leon Orr; and wife of sixty-seven years, Bette. He is survived by brothers, Max Orr of Springfield, Illinois, and Larry Orr of Mexico, Missouri; daughters, Deane Ugalde and Linda Orr; son, Stephen Orr (wife, Linda); granddaughters, Michelle Olsen (husband, Kris) and Stacy Rodriguez (husband, Francisco); grandson, Brian Orr and great-granddaughter, Eden Rodriguez.
Dean’s family moved to Vandalia, Missouri, where Dean graduated from Van-Far High School and went to work in the local brick plant. He then joined the Navy. After boot camp he was assigned to Miami, Florida, where he met and married Elizabeth “Bette” Mae Schultz prior to shipping out to the Pacific where he served as the captain’s talker on a mine sweeper. His ship was moored next to the USS Missouri during the signing of the peace treaty with Japan. Returning to the states, he and his wife and child relocated in West Palm Beach, FL. During this time, he pursued sales jobs and was working for the County Property Appraisers Office at the time of his retirement. Over the years he also worked part time at the Palm Beach Kennel Club. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2014 at the funeral home. Friends may visit prior from 1 – 2 p.m.
