The Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) has officially approved applications for cooperative football sponsorships on both the Junior High and High School levels between Van-Far and Community R-VI. A fax was received by the Van-Far R-I School District from MSHSAA  on November 22 where MSHSAA Executive Director Kerwin Urhahn signed the notification of approval by the MSHSAA Board of Directors for the 2012-2013 and the 2013-2014 season.

“I think this is a great opportunity for our students,” said Van-Far Superintendent Chris Felmlee. “I look forward to the partnership with Community R-VI patrons and students. I hope the partnership will allow more students to experience football and become better athletes. I appreciate the leadership of the members of the school boards, both Van-Far R-I and Community R-VI, and Mrs. (Cheryl) Mack, Community R-VI Superintendent, and her administrative team as well as our district’s administrators and coaches. I pray that the action we took will be one that both schools will look back upon positively.”

Community R-VI Superintendent Cheryl Mack said she was thankful for MSHSAA’s quick turnaround time on the approval.

“I am excited they did agree to this very quickly because it puts everybody’s mind at ease,” she said. “I think it is a great opportunity for our kids and it will only be as successful as we make it. It is now up to us as administrators, the coaches, and the patrons…to make it successful. It’s going to be something new and it will be a great opportunity for kids in this area to experience that type of a sport.”

The applications submitted corresponded with a “Statement of Intent” letter drawn up and approved by both the Van-Far R-I and Community R-VI School Districts.
