The Moore “Happening” was held on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at the New Harmony Christian Church near Curryville. The “Happening” was started in 1981 at the farm home of the late Calvin and Alma Lea Moore near Curryville and has been held every August since. The families gathered at noon and Danny Smith gave the blessing for the big dinner that included the traditional ham, fried chicken, and Jackie’s Crispies. The afternoon was spent telling stories and looking at old pictures.
Those attending were Wanda Moore Holcumbrink, Allan and Deborah Kraft, and Frankie Branstetter, of Curryville; Dave and Sue Moore Davis, and Paula Pflum, of Kirksville; Kay Moore Willis, and Danny and Penny Smith, from Mexico; Keith Dooley, of Odessa; Stephen and Brenda Foutes, Lily and Sydney, of New Bloomfield; Brian and Lindsey Kraft, Courtney and Josee, Linda James and Cody, and Janie Thomas, from Vandalia; Marion and Jackie Branstetter, Rachel Robb, Abby, Lexie, and Mara, of Frankford; John and Vicki Moore, of Auxvasse; Leon and Kay Holcumbrink, from Springfield; Sarah Smith, of Maryville; Harriett Davis, of Sevierville, Tennessee; and Dave and Joyce Mast, from Columbia.
Allan and Brian Kraft brought back an “ole” family favorite, “Money in the Straw,” which was enjoyed by the children.
In thoughts and prayers all day were family members Jesse Holcumbrink, who is recovering from back surgery, and also Mick Stasa and Kennedy Holcumbrink, both of whom are fighting cancer.
Everyone left in the late afternoon thankful for another fun and enjoyable time together.
