Modern Woodmen celebrate 110 years with upcoming Martinsburg Picnic

The Modern Woodmen of America Camp 2556 are celebrating 110 years with the 2013 Martinsburg Picnic scheduled for August 16 and 17.
Day one of this year’s festival is highlighted by the Baby Contest, sponsored by MWA, starting at 6 p.m.
Babies must wear a plain white T-shirt and either a diaper or shorts.
The age categories for boys and girls are birth-6 months, 7-12 months, 13-18 months, and 19-24 months.
The Little Mr. and Little Miss Contest will follow for 3, 4, and 5 year olds.
The event is sponsored by “Ultimate Image” Lisa Householder. The winner will be riding in Saturday’s parade.
Other events include the Turtle and Frog Race, Line Dancing, Cake Walk, and D.J. Jeff Baker.
On Saturday,  door prizes will be given away throughout the day and those wishing to win must be present.
The Martinsburg Area Fire Protection District’s Annual Co-Ed Softball Invitational Tournament will be held. For more information, contact either Scott Vomund at 573-544-4167 or Roger Cope at 573-492-6324.
This year’s parade with the theme “Remember the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s” begins at 11 a.m.
The line-up will be at the stop sign on Highway 19 at 10 a.m. sharp for judging.
Awards will be given for a theme float, antique tractor, antique original vehicle, classic vehicle, kid’s entry, and horse and rider. Prizes are being donated by the Knights of Columbus No. 1270.
The American Legion will present the arms following the parade.
After the parade, the pedal tractor pull will be held for boys and girls ages 4-12. Ribbons will be awarded for 1st-5th places.
Pedal tractors and sleds are being loaned by Ron and Sherri Deimeke.

Sign-up until 3 p.m. will be taken to determine the oldest person on the grounds and the person traveling the longest distance.
Guessing Games will include bean, button, and penny estimating for kids ages 6-12.
Kids Games starting at 3 p.m. will include a money scramble, bubble gum toss, 3-legged race, sack race, hula hoop contest, and a candy toss.
The Tug of War starts at 5 p.m. for age groups 7-10, 11-13, 14-18, and 19-up.
Saturday evening concludes with a dance from 9 p.m.-12 a.m., with music by “Cross Town Buzz.” There will be no admission fee.
The food stands are sponsored by Pork Producers, Audrain R-VI FFA, and the Knights of Columbus.
The Beer Garden is being sponsored by the American Legion Post No. 0552.
