Highlights from the week:
Veterans celebrated Father’s Day with church service in the morning and a bingo game in the afternoon. Special Care veterans also enjoyed reminiscing, homemade bread, outdoor time, chair yoga.
Monday’s activities included a “Pass the Trash” card game in the morning horse races sponsored by Community Loving Hospice was the afternoon selection. Special Care veterans also enjoyed stories, outdoor time, and ball toss.
Tuesday’s highlights included woodworking, Bible study, Lutheran service and veterans’ council. Special Care veterans also participated in Coffee Club, outdoor time and arts/crafts.
On Wednesday, veterans played a hi/low card game in the morning. Veterans celebrating birthday’s in the month of June were treated to lunch at Diner 54. Afternoon activity was birthday Bingo sponsored by VFW No. 2173 and Auxiliary from Vandalia. Birthday cake was served to all. In the evening, veterans enjoyed a smoked supper of chicken thighs, coleslaw and cookies. Special Care veterans celebrating their birthdays were treated to ice cream shakes.
Thursday events included bingo, drawing with a brush, playing pool, Catholic communion and ice cream cones. Special Care veterans, in addition, participated in morning greetings, memory/sensory games, outdoor time, and painting pictures.
Friday’s activities included a fishing trip to Jacksonville, making smores, and a trip to the Fulton VFW for supper. Special care veterans also enjoyed woodworking, outdoor time, and socials.
A few veterans enjoyed breakfast at a Fly-in at Riley’s Roost. Afternoon event included music by Jeff Frazier and Friends. Special Care veterans in addition, participated in ball toss and outdoor time.
Alzheimer’s support group will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20 at the facility. The public is welcome to attend.
Our 17th Annual “Scramble for Freedom” Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, August 13 at Arthur Hills Golf Course. Cost is $65 per person. All proceeds will be invested in a Veterans’ Home Endowment Fund. This fund will be used to give our veterans the opportunity to participate in outings, activities, enhance their surroundings, and receive assistance for personal needs when required.
