More than 100 aspiring basketball players competed each day during the 1st Annual Mike Smith boys and girls basketball camp held June 13-16 at Van-Far High School.
Players in grades 3-12 were split into three different sessions held from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. each day.
Coaches helping included Mike Smith, Matt Smith, Alicia Smith, Adam Potts (Canton), Aaron Hill (Canton), and James Washington (Vashon).
Several volunteers also donated their time to the camp during the four day event.
“What was so rewarding for me from the camp was just seeing the kids smile and enjoy themselves,” Mike Smith said.
“In just four days, I’ve seen improvement from every person who attended the camp which was also a good feeling. Just knowing the kids really took in what we were teaching and applied it to their game. It is a very rewarding feeling seeing the kids improve in just four days, that was the main goal of the camp. Just knowing me and my staff played a role in the development of their game is a great feeling.”
Smith said he was thankful he could bring his first camp to his Alma Mater, the Van-Far R-I School District.
“I would like to thank the Van-Far School District for allowing me to use their facilities, making this camp possible for the kids and I,” Mike Smith added.
“I would also like to thank everyone who participated along with my camp staff and sponsors.”
