For the second time in a year, a Mexico, Mo. high school graduate serving in the military has been interviewed by CBS. Alexis McPike, daughter of Doug and Lori McPike, was recently interviewed by CBS affiliate CBS News 8 in San Diego, Calif. as an Ensign set to serve on the newly commissioned naval destroyer, USS Rafael Peralta. During the more than two minute package, McPike appeared two times as she was interviewed by the station.
“It feels very exciting to be here today,” she said in the first clip. “I’ve been with the ship all through sail around.”
“…That leadership and experience that Sgt. Peralta in his own military experience, it’s an honor to be able to serve in the same capacity…”
McPike’s parents reportedly attended the commissioning event.
The destroyer is named in memory of a San Diego marine who was killed in action in 2004 in Fallujah, Iraq.
Last September, Air Force Captain Stuart Miller, son of retired Audrain County Sheriff Stuart Miller, was interviewed during the 13-minute story “The New Cold War” that appeared on “60 Minutes.”
