On Sunday, January 1, at approximately 3:56 p.m., Mexico Public Safety Department (MPSD) responded to Howell Manor Court in reference to a disturbance with one person being shot.
Responding personnel learned that Daryl E. Richardson, age 22, of Mexico, was in a verbal argument with Allen Williams, age 21, of Mexico, and Richardson shot Williams twice as he walked away.
With the assistance of some alert citizens, MPSD arrested Richardson without incident a few minutes after the shooting, about four blocks away.
Richardson was processed at MPSD and later transported to the Audrain County Jail charged with Assault, first degree and Armed Criminal Action. Williams was treated for his injuries at the University Hospital in Columbia and has since been released.
Citizens are reminded that people arrested and/or charged with a crime are simply accused of the crime and are to be considered innocent until proven guilty.
