Mayweather, JR.

On Thursday, January 25 at approximately 4 p.m., Audrain County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at a hotel in the 1000 block of East Liberty Street in an attempt to serve an Audrain County arrest warrant for James Anthony Mayweather Jr., age 33, of Mexico. The arrest warrant was for Failure to Appear on the Original Charge of Assault. Sheriff’s deputies located Mayweather in a hotel room and arrested him on the arrest warrant without incident. During the arrest, Sheriff’s deputies detected the odor of marijuana in Mayweather’s motel room and observed drug paraphernalia in plain view.
Sheriff’s deputies subsequently obtained and executed a search warrant on Mayweather’s Motel room. During the search, deputies located and seized individually packaged baggies of cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, over $1,000 in U.S. currency, and multiple items of drug paraphernalia used in the illegal use and distribution of controlled substances.
In addition to the arrest warrant, Mayweather was arrested for Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana, Maintaining a Public Nuisance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. At the time of this release, Mayweather remains in the Audrain County Jail.
The Audrain County Sheriff’s Office will continue to work with other law enforcement agencies and community partners to curb drug abuse throughout the county, which so many times lead to other offenses such as burglary and stealing.
Anyone having information concerning illegal drug activity is urged to contact the East Central Drug Task Force at 573-473-5801 or Audrain County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-TIPS. The investigation is ongoing and further charges could be forthcoming. All suspects are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
