Sherry Medley has been named the Fundraising Coordinator for the Eastern Missouri Family YMCA Project.
Medley has been involved with the project since the initial meetings began in 2011 and brings 20 years of experience related to managing and directing the Mexico YMCA.
Medley will be providing guidance related to improving the fundraising process for the project and will be ensuring progress by establishing deadlines and accountability. She considers herself “the coach” for the project and plans to offer guidance and encouragement to all the volunteers who are going to make the project successful.
Recently in December of 2015, Medley retired from the position of Executive Director for the Mexico YMCA. Within her YMCA career, she has overseen two large capital campaign drives for the Mexico YMCA. The first fundraising undertaking produced $2.8 million for an addition to the original YMCA, which caused membership numbers to double. The second fund raising event generated $4.5 million for another building addition that tripled the size of the facility. Her past fundraising knowledge and resourcefulness will be a key component for meeting the project goals.
Medley’s experience, involvement, and positive personality will prove very valuable to the Eastern Missouri Family YMCA. Sherry stated, “The YMCA will exist to serve the people of Vandalia and the surrounding area, young and old.”
Medley will be attending various events and meetings throughout the project. Folks are asked to welcome her to her role. Medley is a Mexico resident and hopes to enjoy travelling with her husband, recently retired from Missouri Military Academy, and also a retired Air Force officer. She enjoys spoiling her five grandchildren and is looking forward to welcoming the sixth one this summer.
