The Van-Far boys cross country team was likely just one runner short from earning a team meet victory last week when they competed in the Wellsville-Middletown R-I Invitational.
With just four runners, the Indians didn’t have the five needed for team points to defeat first place Clopton.
Meanwhile, Lathyn McMorris won the individual title by :42 seconds after winning the race with a time of 18:18. He improved his time by :15 seconds.
Sam Hazel wasn’t far behind in third place at 19:20 after he improved his time by about one minute. Logan Wilson improved his time by about :30 seconds taking 12th with a time of 21:50.
Jayson Orr ran two minutes faster and finished the race in 27:57.
“We did not have a complete team due to Tyler Robinson having other commitments and Ethan (Winders) having to drop out due to injury,” said Van-Far head coach Kris Cross.
The Lady Indians didn’t have a complete team due to the meet moving to a different day then first scheduled.
Maddie McAfee led the girls with a fifth place time of 25:27, setting a new personal record (PR) by nearly two minutes. She was about a minute off the first place time.
Kenede Farrell improved her time by four minutes at 32:39.
“All in all, I thought the kids had a great meet and it was nice to run against some of the teams that we will be competing against in districts,” Cross added.
