MARVIN WESLEY JONES

Marvin Wesley Jones passed away August 21st, 2015 At University Medical Center in Columbia, at the age of 92.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Arnold Funeral Home in Mexico, burial with full military honors will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Marvin was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. (Estelle Martin) Jones. He had one brother, Robert Jr. and two sisters, Udema Moore and Virginia Campbell; all preceding him in death.
Marvin married Ms. Fern Pauley on August 12, 1944, at the home of Marvin’s parents in Ashland, Mo. They had two children, Mrs. Donna Ruth Martin and husband Joe, and Gary Wayne Jones and wife Phyllis. Fern preceded him in death. They had six granddaughters, Lisa Bahlman; Lori Brower; and Mrs. Ruth Ann Taylor and husband Jeff; Mrs. Leslie Smith and husband Michael; Jamie Ellis; and Alanna Beth Jones. They also have eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Marvin attended Grade School and High School in Ashland, Mo. It was at the age of 14 years that Marvin accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He attended college at the University of Missouri; he attended the Hannibal LaGrange College, William Jewell, in Liberty, Mo. and the Central Seminary.
Marvin joined the service in 1943 and was promoted to Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Corps. He served until 1946. He was stationed in Stout Field, Indianapolis, Indiana.
Marvin was ordained as a Deacon in 1947 in Ashland, Mo.
Surrendered to minister and was licensed on August 31, 1952. He was ordained to the Gospel Ministry November 29, 1953 at the Ashland Baptist Church. During his college years he also ministered at Bethany Baptist, in Philadelphia, Mo., Hunnewell Baptist, in Hunnewell, Mo. He ministered at the Littleby Baptist Church, (1954-1955) Mt. Zion Baptist Church, in Molino, Mo. (1954-1961) where he baptized 32 people. Also, at Laddonia Baptist Church (1961-1965) baptizing 32 people. He then became the pastor at Friendship Baptist Church (1965-1988), where he baptized 461 people.
Marvin retired from the Friendship Baptist Church in Mexico, Mo. in 1988, after the death of his first wife Fern on Jan. 25, 1988.
Marvin went to Southside Baptist Church in Vandalia, Mo as an interim pastor in 1989 where he met and married his 2nd wife Alta Trower on July 28, 1990. Marvin’s family was extended by two stepsons, Mr. Robert Trower and wife Betty, Tim Trower and one step daughter Mrs. Tammy Carr and husband Mike. He also gained four grandchildren, Kris and Ryan Trower, Keven Carr and wife Michelle, and Robert Carr, and two great grandchildren.
Marvin continued to serve at Southside Baptist Church over the next 21 years, where he retired on Jan. 30, 2011.
