The 2015 Martinsburg Picnic, as presented by the Modern Woodmen of America Camp 2556, kicks off this Friday with a variety of contests.
On Friday night at 6 p.m., the Baby Show begins. Babies are to wear a plain white T-shirt and diaper or shorts. The contest is for ages 0-24 months.
The Little Mr. and Miss Contest follows for ages 3-5 with the winner riding in the parade on Saturday.
A Washer Tournament has a 6 p.m. registration for the 7 p.m. tournament with cash prizes. Contact Matt Vomund at 573-564-8131.
There will also be a turtle and frog race.
A show of quilts, “Bed Turning,” will be featured in the MWA Building at 7:30 p.m.
The Martinsburg Line Dancers will perform and feature their new “horse” at 8:15 p.m.
A Cake Walk will also be held.
A Super Farmer Contest is scheduled as well in three age divisions with male and female teams. There is a $10 entry fee. Sign-up starts at 7 p.m.
On Saturday morning, 10 a.m. judging for the parade is followed by the actual parade at 11 a.m. with a “Wild, Wild West” theme. Awards go to theme float, antique tractor, antique original vehicle, classic vehicle, kid’s entry, and horse and rider.
The 4-H and Martinsburg History exhibits will be featured in the library from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Kids Shoebox Floats are also being judged. This parade takes place at 3 p.m.
The Sign-Up and Guessing Games go until 3 p.m.
A Pedal Tractor Pull for ages 4-12 starts after the parade.
Quilts are again on display at 1:30 p.m.
The Backseat Driving Contest has a sign-up at 1 p.m. with a 2 p.m. contest. Parent and child teams cost $3 and the husband and wife teams cost $5.
The Fireman’s Water Barrel Fight sign-up is at 3 p.m. for the 4 p.m. event. Teams are to feature two male and two female students.
In the evening, “Midnight Music by Highwater” will lead the dance at 8 p.m. with a cost of $5 per person.
Door prizes will be given out throughout the day.
Concession stands will also be open.
