Martha Louise (Peabody) Schriefer, age 96, of Vandalia, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 11:30 p.m. at the Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia, Missouri.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 from 10 a.m. until service time at Waters Funeral Chapel in Vandalia.
A service was held on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Waters Funeral Chapel.
Officiating was the Rev. Joel Montgomery.
Music was provided by selected favorite hymns.
Interment was in the Vandalia Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Patrick Rawlings, John Rawlings, Mike White, Tony Hand, and David White.
Martha Louise (Peabody) Schriefer was born on May 9, 1918 near Curryville, Missouri the daughter of Lloyd P. and Maurine (Chamberlain) Peabody.
She married John H. Schriefer on November 9, 1939 in Troy, Missouri; he preceded her in death on March 22, 2001.
She was a lifelong area resident and of rural Curryville and Vandalia. Martha attended schools in Curryville and was a 1936 graduate of Curryville High School. After her marriage to John, she worked as a store clerk for several businesses in Vandalia; among them was the jewelry store, Pearson’s Clothing Store and P N Hirsch. Martha was a 50+ year member of the First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia where she had sang in the choir many years ago. She also enjoyed working on ceramics and growing her flowers.
Survivors include three nieces, Pamela White and Debra Rawlings, both of Columbia, Missouri, and Maurine Ringstrom, of Alexandria, Missouri; also survived by several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; one son, John Lloyd Schriefer; two sisters: Frances S. Cash and Willeyene Ringstrom.
