Marjorie Eleanor Carlson Stevens

Marjorie E. Stevens, age 94 of Sumner, Iowa passed away Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Hillcrest Home, Sumner, Iowa.
Marjorie Eleanor Stevens was born on September 11, 1917, in Audrain County, Mo., the daughter of Caradotus Edward Carlson and Clara Lucinda Schroll Carlson. Marjorie graduated from the Farber Consolidated School and attended Central Missouri State Teacher’s College in Warrensburg, Mo. She passed the certified teachers’ exam and taught 3 years at Oak Grove Elementary School in Laddonia, Mo.
She was married to William Delano Stevens, Jr. on June 28, 1941 in the Presbyterian Church in Vandalia, Mo.
They resided on a farm north of Sumner Iowa where W.D. operated a successful turkey business until his retirement. She was a long time member of the Salem Evangelical Church where she taught Sunday school and was active in church affairs. She enjoyed spending time with her children, helping people, working at church, gardening, quilt making and watching birds.
She is survived by seven children; Phyllis Jackson (Lyle) of West Union, Iowa, Stanley Stevens (Jan) of Dundas, Minn., Carol Kruse (Fred) of Mission, Texas, Rosemary Hahle (Paul) of Maquoketa, Iowa, Barbara Sell of Sumner, Iowa, Jeanette Stevens of Denver, Iowa and Wilma Mizanoski (Ed) of Bolivar, Ohio; 22 grandchildren, 16 great- grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Additional survivors include her brother George Carlson of Laddonia, Mo. and a sister Elizabeth Aguilar of Denver, Colo.
Marjorie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother Warren Carlson and a sister Louise Bell.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Faith Evangelical Church, Sumner, Iowa, with Rev. Shannon Perry as officiant. Interment to follow at Wilson Grove Cemetery.
Public visitation was from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, February 10, 2012 at the S. K. Rogers Funeral Home, Sumner, Iowa.
