On September 6, 2014 at approximately 9:12 p.m., the Pike County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from 6456 Pike 457 for a man threatening his family with a gun.
James R. Dougherty, age 59, of that address, was taken in to custody by Sheriff’s Deputies. Dougherty has been charged by Pike County Prosecutor Mark Fisher with class C felony of domestic assault in the second degree. Class C felony of unlawful possession of a fire arm by a convicted felon and armed criminal action. Bond was set at $25,000 cash only by the Honorable Judge David Ash. Bond on this warrant was posted on September 8. In addition to the weapon allegedly used in the assault Deputies also secured and removed from the property a multitude of weapons, weapons parts, ammunition, a silencer and a bullet proof vest. The FBI has been contacted to come and inspect what appears to be a fully functioning M1919 .30 caliber machine gun. A second warrant on Dougherty for an additional 16 counts of Class C felony of unlawful possession of a fire arm by a convicted felon received a bond of $25,000 with release on personal recognizance.
Dougherty was released on his own recognizance on the evening of 8 September.
All persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
