A Bowling Green man has been charged with two counts of unlawful use of a weapon after alledgedly pulling a shotgun on two Fed-Ex employees and a pistol on the Pike County Sheriff.

According to a statement from Pike County Sheriff Stephen Korte, Pike County Prosecutor Mark Fisher filed the two counts against Leroy “Roger” Shinn, age 54, of rural Bowling Green, on Wednesday, November 21. The charges stem from an incident the day prior when Shinn reportedly struck a Fed-Ex truck in a white SUV on Pike County Road 132 and fled the scene.

Being followed by the delivery truck driver with another Fed-Ex employee in tow, Shinn drove to his residence on Pike 132 where he then reportedly pulled a shotgun on the Fed-Ex employees and instructed them to leave his property.

The employees left Shinn’s home and called 911 at 4:05 p.m., about one mile from the residence.

Reporting to the emergency call, Korte, a Pike County sheriff, and a trooper from the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrived at Shinn’s home at 4:41 p.m. Sheriff Korte directly approached the front of Shinn’s home with the other officers taking side positions.

At about 50 feet from Shinn’s door, Sheriff Korte announced in a loud voice his arrival and directed Shinn to come out and speak with him and the other officers.

Shinn then came outside of his residence and pointed a pistol  at Sheriff Korte, who took cover behind a tree.

After a five-minute standoff, Shinn placed his pistol on the ground and stepped back. Shinn was maced after not complying with instructions from the officers, after which he was taken into custody and transported to Pike County Hospital to be relieved from the mace.

Judge David Ash set Shinn’s bond at $5,000 with a 10-percent cash or surety bail. Shinn posted $500 cash. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is still investigating the vehicle accident, of which may result in further charges.
