Vandalia police officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of W. St. Johns St. and N. Jefferson St. for an equipment violation.
The vehicle led officers on a short pursuit as it failed to yield.
The officers were able to get the vehicle stopped and made contact with the driver identified as Ricardo Gibson, age 28, of Vandalia.
When the officers contacted the driver, they observed a strong odor of intoxicants emanating from the vehicle and person. Field sobriety was conducted and the following charges were given to the driver: Driving While Intoxicated (1st Offense); Driving While Revoked (2nd or Subsequent Offense); Fail to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle; Fail to Stop for Stop Sign (two counts); Fail to Signal Turn; Exceeded the Posted Speed Limit (Exceeded by 6-10 m.p.h.); Fail to Drive on Right Half of Roadway When Roadway of Sufficient Width; Failure to Register Motor Vehicle; Displayed Motor Vehicle Plates of Another Person/Vehicle; Fail to Produce Financial Responsibility (No Insurance); and Fail to Wear a Properly Adjusted/Fastened Safety Belt.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
