Lorna Lee Gatson

Lorna Lee Adam Gatson died February 19, 2012 at Landmark Hospital due to complications from pancreatic cancer.
Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22. at the First Presbyterian Church, Mexico, Mo., with visitation following from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Arnold Funeral Home.
Lorna was born June 11, 1941 at Pike County Hospital to Will M. and Maud (Pittenger) Adam. She graduated from Van-Far High School as valedictorian of the class of 1959 and from the University of Missouri with a BS in nursing ’63, Bachelors of Education ’73, and MS in nursing ’95. She also attained her National Certification in Oncology Nursing.
Lorna was employed for many years as an evening charge nurse at Audrain Medical Center and also worked briefly for University Hospital and Ellis Fischel.
Lorna was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mexico, Mo. at the time of her death. She was a Sunday School teacher, devotion leader and camp nurse. She loved music, serving as church pianist and/or organist for over 40 years. She led numerous home Bible studies, was active in Presbyterian Women’s Circle and Stephens Ministry. She was happiest when serving others.
Lorna is survived by her twin brother Alan Dee Adam and wife Loralee of Vandalia, sister Jean Knight Durrett and husband Ken, Temple, Texas; children, Adam Gatson and wife Julie, Greg Gatson and wife Jennifer both of Vandalia, and Heather Martin and husband Phillip of Bucklin, Mo. Grandchildren include Cheyenne Gatson, Kasey Gatson, Abilene Gatson, Garth Gatson, Candace Gatson, Miriam Martin, Joel Martin and Audrey Martin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Mexico, Mo. in care of Arnold Funeral Home 425 S. Jefferson Mexico, Mo. 65265.
