Lola Blanche Palmer, formerly of Bowling Green, passed away at her home in Vandalia on Oct. 24, 2014.
A memorial service will be held at Antioch Church near Cyrene on June 27 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Bob Hoehn officiating.
Lola was born near Cyrene of Dec. 8, 1921, the daughter of Elliott Lester and Sarah Betty Henderson Smith. Preceding her in death were a sister Margaret Lovell and spouse Claude, brothers and their spouses, J.C. (Nellie) Smith, Virgil (Alma) Smith, and Clarence “Whistle” Smith. At the time of her death she was survived by Emily (Clarence) Smith, who has since deceased.
On May 4, 1940, Lola married Sam Palmer, and he preceded her in death in 1993.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Louise Hammett Gessman of Combine, Texas and Connie Sue (Roger) Hoover of Vandalia. Daughter Wanda Lori Sharpmack died in 2006 and two son-in-laws, Jerry Sharpmack and Jerry Gessman have also died. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces survive.
Lola graduated from Prairie Mound School near Bowling Green and was neither tardy or absent for eight years. She was a cook at the Bowling Green School from 1958-1966. She moved to Vandalia in 1999 and enjoyed playing cards with family and friends.
