Local veterans take Honor Flight

On Thursday, April 26, 107 veterans took part in the Central Missouri Honor Flight (CMHF) No. 51. The group left the Marriott Hotel in Columbia at 2:15 a.m. and returned at 9:30 p.m. It was a fast, fun-filled day that they will never forget. Many memories were made and the veterans received the “thanks” and the long over-due “welcome home.”
Members and spouses of the Wellsville-Middletown R-1 Class of ’65 who were in Columbia to “Welcome Home” CMHF No.51 were Mary Ann Heim and Jim and Nancy Dunn, of Middletown; Phil and Alice Shocklee, of Columbia; Dennis Steele, of Hermann; Barbara Alexander, of Mexico; Shirley Swearingen, of Montgomery City; Donnie and Kay Yelton, of Wellsville; and Eldora Lowry, of Auxvasse. Other family and friends were Aaron and Jen Heim and daughters, of Mexico; Michelle Heim and friend, of O’Fallon; Sandy Willis, of Middletown; and Verda Adkisson, of Auxvasse.
Some more local residents who were on the flight were Ken Coil, Benton City; PA Hull, Farber; Ed Oberhaus, Midletown; Tony Heim, Middletown/ and Charles Bigelow, Laddonia.
Central Missouri Honor Flight No. 52 is scheduled for May 29 with approximately 110 veterans. Plan to join in on May 29 to again give the so deserved and belated “Welcome Home” to these special veterans. Anticipated arrival time at the Marriott Hotel in Columbia is 9:30 p.m.
