Beverly Farm Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, in Godfrey, Ill., is a community designed to enhance the lives of its residents, develop their life skills, and provide the required medical care and a variety of therapies.  Situated on 220 acres with an abundance of green space, Beverly Farm is a pleasant place to live and work for adults (18 and older) with developmental disabilities, and is home to nearly 400 adults.
Beverly Farm has facilities and trained staff to support the direct care and development of residents, administrative and operational functions of the community and the maintenance of buildings and grounds.  At Beverly Farm they try to make the environment feel like home to their residents, in fact better than home in many ways.  With planned social activities, comfortable housing, and unique recreational facilities, Beverly Farm is as much about quality of life as it is about quality of care.
Beverly Farm has residents from all across the country and in order to raise awareness of its facilities, and maybe a few funds also, it has organized what it calls, “Beverly Farms Coast to Coast Summertime Bash!” Gatherings will take place across the U.S. on June 22, 2013.  Families of residents are organizing events to share in the excitement of Beverly Farm with their communities.
Two ladies from Martinsburg are residents at Beverly Farm; Kathleen Gastler, daughter of Bill Gastler and the late Barbara Gastler; and Cathy Wieberg, daughter of Robert (Bud) Wieberg and the late Willa Wieberg. You don’t have to visit long with either one of these ladies to realize how much they love it at Beverly Farm.
There are three fun “Bash” events planned for June 22 in the area.  First there will be a delicious BBQ at the Martinsburg City Park from 4–7 p.m. Pork steaks, hamburgers, brats, potato casserole, baked beans and slaw will be on the menu.  Pork steak plates with two sides will be available for $9.00 and hamburger or brat plates for $7.00. Carry outs will be available. Second, A Poker Run will begin with registration at 11 am at Teddy Joe’s Bar & Grill in Martinsburg. The entry fee is $10.00 per person. The ride will end at the Martinsburg City Park. Also that day in Wellsville there will be a co-ed softball tournament.
So as you can see there are plenty of great things to do that day! Go for a scenic ride, enjoy some great BBQ and take in a ballgame! Join others from coast to coast in celebrating and educating our communities as part of Beverly Farm’s first “Coast to Coast Summertime Bash”!
