Local DAR chapter meets

The Susanna Randolph Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held its meeting on April 3 at the Vandalia Hotel. Ann Carter, Vice-Regent, called the meeting to order. Virginia Howdeshell, Chaplain, asked the blessing before the meal. The meeting began with the opening ritual including the singing of the National Anthem.
Barbara Elzea read the President General’s message. Vice-Regent Ann Carter presented the National Defense News. The Constitution Minute was read by Virginia Howdeshell. Judy Flowers delivered the American Indian Minute. Ruth Miller offered a Conservation Minute.
Mandi Bryant, Recording Secretary, gave the secretary’s report for March and took roll call  with the question, “How can you remain physically fit?”
Cindy Pirch read thank you letters from US Interior Indian Affairs and Bacone College in Muskcogee, Okla., both wanting to thank the chapter for their support with the Campbell’s labels. Ruth Miller defined what the chapter needs to collect for acceptable labels.
Teresa Wenzel, gave the treasurer report for March.
Historian Dorothy Black brought the scrap book for members to look through.
Ruth Miller, Registrar, announced that papers were ready to go for Vicki Wright and Elaine Dameron to sign and for Paige Dameron to sign her C.A.R. papers. Miller is currently working on Esther Robinson’s papers.
Vice Regent, Ann Carter, reminded the chapter that the May meeting will be on May 8 and the State Conference will be the first weekend in May. There will be a church lady program at the May meeting to honor Mother’s Day anniversary.
In Committee reports, Felicity Goodpasture-Culwell nominated Ann Carter for Regent, Muriel Beshears for Vice Regent, Virginia Howdeshell for Chaplain, Mandi Bryant for Recording Secretary, Cindy Pirch for Corresponding Secretary, Teresa Wenzel for Treasurer, Ruth Miller for Registrar, Brenda Gower and Crystal McCurdy for Historians, for the 2014-2016 term. Brenda Gower seconded the motion, and it was approved unanimously. Officer installation will be at the May meeting.  Ann Carter reminded everyone to log their volunteer hours for “Celebrate America” online.
In unfinished business, Continental Congress Credentials form had the final signatures added. The Archives project will be pulled together for the summer meeting.  Carter and Howdeshell were getting final paperwork for the Community Service Award.
In new business, Flag Day luncheon plans were started. It will be hosted at the hotel. Virginia Howdeshell and Vickie Wright are starting the committee plans and will start plans for door prizes and table decorations. The chapter thanked Cindy Pirch for making the name tags for everyone. Felicity Goodpasture-Culwell gave the program, “The Vandalia Area YMCA Progress” The meeting was adjourned with the Daughters Pledge, the Preamble to the US Constitution, and Pledge of Allegiance to the State of Missouri.  Those in attendance were: Dorothy Black, Mandi Bryant, Ann Carter, Felicity Goodpasture-Culwell, Barbara Elzea, Judy Flowers, Brenda Gower, Virginia Howdeshell, Maxine Jackson, Ruth Miller, Pam Oetting, Cindy Pirch, Teresa Wenzel, Elaine Dameron, Paige Dameron, Shera Dameron, Vickie Wright, and Gabriel Bryant.
