Several Vandalia area residents are currently struggling with “hurts, habits, and hangups” that are affecting their daily lives.
This list may include addictions (drugs, food, porn), alcoholism, depression, divorce, anger, abuse, domestic violence, gambling, loneliness, sexual integrity, grief, codependency, loss, lust, and more.
There’s now a safe place in Vandalia to help area residents have an opportunity to be open and honest about the things they are struggling with.
Celebrate Recovery (CR), a Christ-centered recovery group, is being established at the Beacon of Hope Church, located at 601 E. U.S. Highway 54.
CR uses both the 12 steps developed by Alcoholics Anonymous and a very similar set of eight sequential principles that are understood as a lesson of Jesus’ Beatitudes.
The CR meetings will be held at the Beacon of Hope Church on Friday nights from 6-9 p.m., with the first meeting being held this Friday, May 18.
Each Friday night, a fellowship meal will be served from 6-7 p.m, followed by a time of worship music, teaching, and gender specific discussion groups.
Though there is an expression that “time heals all wounds.” Unfortunately, this is not true. People themselves and others they’ve met in a lifetime, have carried and, in fact, are still carrying around hurts from 10, 20, 30 years ago, or even longer. The truth is, that time often makes things worse.
These hurts tend to fester, become infected, and soon start to poison those affected. If these wounds are left untended, they spread this poisonous infection throughout bodies, minds, and even into spirits. Most of the times, this infection spreads to others through actions. If the problems in one’s past are not healed, time tends to extend the pain into our present and future.
CR is a Biblical and balanced program to help people overcome their hurts, habits, and hang-ups. Based on the actual words of Jesus, rather than psychological theory, CR is a unique Christ-centered recovery program. By placing Christ in the center of this recovery ministry, it has opened the door to many broken and hurt people in their communities to have a permanent recovery through knowing Christ.
CR has helped thousands of people to transforms their lives, helping them to grow toward a fuller Christ like maturity for their life.
Celebrate Recovery started in 1991 at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif. There are now 35,000 Celebrate Recovery churches around the world, and that number continues to grow.
The CR that is being established in Vandalia is part of a movement that is bringing the healing power of Jesus Christ to the hurting and broken through working “Celebrate Recovery’s Step Studies,” “The Journey Begins,” and “The Journey Continues.” To date, over 5,000,000 individuals have completed a Step Study.
