Linda Lou Downing, age 72, of Fenton and formerly of Bowling Green, passed away March 27, 2015 at the Delmar Gardens of Meramec Valley in Fenton.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., March 30, at the New Harmony Christian Church in Curryville with Pastor Dawn Marie Turner officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Bowling Green. Visitation was held March 29 at the Bibb-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green.
Linda was born June 3, 1942, the daughter of John Wilber and Henrietta Ingram Curry. On Oct. 15, 1960 in Bowling Green she married Glenn A. Downing. He preceded her in death on Aug. 10, 2014.
Survivors include two daughters Glenda Poppleton and husband Larry of Lonedell and Cindy Fitch of Missouri; four grandchildren Christina Poppleton, Anna Poppleton, Katherine Fitch, and Matthew Fitch; many great-grandchildren; sister Lottie Hinten of Curryville; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Helen Gilette, and brothers George, Bill, and John Curry and Charlie and Rodney Johnson.
Linda was born and raised in Bowling Green. She lived and worked in the St. Louis area for many years before returning to Bowling Green in 1982. She was a member of the New Harmony Christian Church. Linda worked as a cook in the public school cafeteria. She enjoyed her church, church functions and doing crocheting. She also loved watching the St. Louis Cardinals, but most of all she loved being around and caring for children.
Serving as pallbearers were Larry Poppleton, Bryan Curry, Dennis Curry, Dustin Betz, Bryan Erbacher, and Mark Graves.
