LINDA GERALDINE BERRY STARKS

Linda Geraldine Berry Starks, age 61, passed away July 31, 2012 at Landmark Hospital, Columbia, Mo. after a 17 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. She departed this life surrounded by her doting husband Flea, daughters, son, sister, nieces, grandchildren and pastor, Rev. John Harris, Sr.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, August 6, 2012 at the Second Christian Church in Vandalia with Rev. John Harris officiating. Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, August 5 at Waters Funeral Chapel in Vandalia.
Interment was in the Vandalia cemetery.
“Gerri,” as she was known, was born on September 22, 1950 in Hannibal, Mo. to Clifford L. Berry, Sr. and Bertie Mae Allison Berry. She graduated from Van-Far High School in 1969, and later being one of the first achieving her LPN licensing through a Tri-County Care Center educational scholarship.
On January 31, 1970 her devoted husband James L. Starks had the honor of making her his wife, in which they lived blissfully for 42 years.
She is survived by her loving husband James L. Starks; sons Timothy Starks, Sr. and wife Tawania, of Glendale, Ariz.; Tyler E. Starks, of Auxvasse, Mo.; daughters Tasha L. Starks, of Columbia, Mo.; Tonika R. Starks, of Columbia, Mo.; Tarasha A. Starks, of Columbia, Mo.; sisters Joyce Chatman and husband Roger, of Vandalia, Mo.; Brenda Perkins and husband Donnell, of Vandalia, Mo.; Pamela Hammers, of Columbia, Mo.; Barbara Mahaney and husband Robert Sr., of Montgomery City, Mo.; brother-in-law Donald Hammers, of Columbia, Mo.; sister-in-law Virginia Starks and partner Daryl Chatman, of Clarksville, Mo.; sister-in-law Elizabeth Hall and husband Cornelius, of Springfield, Ill.; Uncle Breck English and wife Cathy, of Denver, Colo.; 15 grandchildren, Shanese, Bud, Crystal, O.B., Ray-Ray, Tanner, Malique, Imani, Tyson, Tavian, Deonte, Rasool, Darius, Ariana, and Treasure; and four great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Courtney, Jeremiah, and Madora.
She also leaves behind a host of loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Clifford and Bertie Mae; grandfathers Van Berry and Emmett Allison; grandmothers Flora Berry and Mary Carter; brother Clifford Berry, Jr.; aunts Geraldine Washington and Ida Mae Berry, who died in infancy; nephew Darren Perkins; and niece Tyra Chatman.
