Three Missouri organizations, a private company, a professional association and a local emergency planning committee, each received an award at the 2017 Region 7 Emergency Planning and Response Conference held July 20-22 in Overland Park, Kan.
Hosted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the conference is for emergency response and related organizations in Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, and Nebraska. Award nominations were received from across the region for outstanding work in the field of emergency response planning for chemical incidents.
• The Audrain County LEPC received the Medium Population Award for outstanding work with local emergency responders to provide the best possible training and planning for effective response to hazardous materials incidents.
The county LEPC received special recognition for its work with local media to effectively provide citizens with information about hazardous materials emergency response.
• Geeding Construction, Inc., headquartered in Troy, Mo., received the Missouri Industry Partnership Award for its work with Lincoln County’s LEPC. Geeding Construction is a Missouri family-owned and managed pipeline construction and maintenance company that provides services throughout the United States.
• The Pipeline Association of Missouri was also recognized for its outstanding support of LEPCs throughout the state, as well as their support of the annual conference. The association provides annual training to emergency response planners and first responders. The next round of association-hosted training events begins in October.
