The Community R-VI Lady Trojans saw their record drop below .500 after finishing a disappointing fourth place in the Sturgeon Tournament.
Community R-VI head coach Bob Curtis was hoping his team could get back on track in their EMO Conference matchup with rival Wellsville. Fortunately, his team responded by holding Wellsville to four points or less in three quarters for an easy 51-17 victory.
Community R-VI led 27-8 at halftime and never looked back in teh 34-point victory.
“Eight different girls scored on a night where we shot the ball a lot better from the field,” Bob Curtis said. “It is my hope that we continue to make shots on a nightly basis because if we do I feel like our defense gives us a chance against just about anybody.”
Brittni Brandwein led the Lady Trojans with 17 points after making four 3-pointers and also had four steals.
Shelby Curtis had 14 points and five assists; Paige Curtis tallied seven points and seven rebounds; while Paige Harris added seven rebounds.
The Lady Trojans also picked up a huge victory over a South Callaway team that was successful in the Sturgeon Tournament as they won 49-42. The Lady Trojans traveled to South Callaway and led 29-23 at halftime and held on late for the seven point victoyr.
In the first half, the Lady Trojans shot 47-percent from the field.
“It was one of the better games for us this season,” Bob Curtis said. “…South Callaway is a much improved ball club from a year ago. Beating them on the road maybe just the boost we need going into the second half of our season.”
Brandwein made three 3-pointers and finished with 20 points and seven rebounds. Paige Curtis had 11 points, Alisha Arens had six points, and Shelby Curtis added four assists.
