The Community R-VI Lady Trojans opened their EMO Conference schedule at home last week before the Thanksgiving break and started with a solid 64-33 victory over rival Wellsville.
The Lady Trojans jumped out to a 21-3 first-quarter lead and never looked back.
“A good first quarter set the tone as we forced some turnovers with our pressure that resulted in some easy buckets in transition,” said Community R-VI head girls basketball coach Bob Curtis.
Community R-VI’s defense held the Lady Tigers to just six first-half points for a 33-6 halftime lead.
The Lady Trojans outscored Wellsville 19-14 in the fourth quarter before holding on for the 33-point win.
Community R-VI made 6-of-10 free throws in the victory.
Eight different Lady Trojans scored as all-state player Samm Jett made four 3-pointers and finished with 30 points.
“She was very efficient taking good shots and letting the game come to her,” Bob Curtis noted about Jet.
Senior point guard Danielle Brooks led the transition game and scored 11 points with four assists.
Alissa Curtis added a near double-double with nine points and eight rebounds. Chelsea Hoyt had five points and three steals.
