The Community R-VI Lady Trojans basketball team picked up another big EMO Conference victory last week when they defeated Montgomery County for their fourth straight victory, 60-41.
“Four wins in a row and we are getting healthy and playing well at the right time of the season,” said Community R-VI head coach Bob Curtis. “Samm (Jett) and Danielle (Brooks) both recorded double-doubles tonight and played very well.”
The Lady Trojans led by one at the end of the first quarter before pushing their lead to nine points at halftime.
Community R-VI outscored the Lady Wildcats 26-16 in the second half for the 19-point victory.
Jett tallied 30 points, 10 rebounds, and three steals while Brooks had 17 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
Samantha Jackson had seven points and five rebounds; Danie Jackson added two points and two steals; Rebecca Hagan scored two points; and Alissa Curtis tallied two points and six rebounds.
JV girls win
The Community R-VI JV girls improved their record to 6-2 after a 34-22 win over Montgomery County’s JV squad.
The Lady Trojans’ defense held the Lady Wildcats to eight points or less in all four quarters.
Community R-VI led 15-10 at halftime before outscoring Montgomery County 19-12 in the second half for a 12-point win.
“Lexus (LaGesse) has led us in scoring the last two games connecting on multiple 3’s at big times to give the Lady Trojans the lead,” Bob Curtis said. “Ivy Stathem has always hit some big 3’s the last few games helping us win our last two JV games. Tayler Cope and Chelsea Hoyt have done a nice job handling the point position getting us into our offense and breaking pressure when we receive it.”
LaGesse finished with 13 points and five rebounds while Stathem had seven points and seven rebounds.
Cope scored six points, Hoyt had four points, and both Morgan Duenke and Charley Ann Stone scored two points.
