The Community R-VI Junior High girls basketball team picked up four wins last week after outscoring their opponents 163-72.
The Lady Trojans started the week by crushing Mark Twain, 32-10. Community R-VI shut out Mark Twain in the first quarter and led 18-3 at halftime before cruising to a 22-point victory.
Dalaney Bowers scored 15 points, Sadie Hoyt had 14, and Emmi Johnson had three points.
One night later, the Lady Trojans jumped out to a 14-1 first quarter lead over Wellsville before cruising to a 38-14 win.
Hoyt set the pace with 16 points while Bowers had 13 points. Brianna Beamer scored six points, Johnson had two points, and Emma Angel added one point.
The Lady Trojans continued to flex its EMO Conference muscle when it crushed Silex, 47-17.
Community R-VI led 17-0 at the end of the first quarter and pushed the lead to 25-4 at halftime.
Pressure defense forced a lot of turnovers in the first six minutes that were converted into easy baskets.
“One of the keys after that frame was to still play hard and win every quarter the rest of the game,” coach Bob Curtis said. “The girls took those words to heart and made it happen.”
The Lady Trojans outscored the Lady Owls 22-13 in the second half in the win. Bowers led all scorers with 20 points. Hoyt added 13 points, both Johnson and Beamer had six points, and Angel scored one point.
“(Community R-VI) 7th grader Brianna Beamer also showed her toughness by taking two charges in the contest to save a couple open lay-ups,” Curtis added.
In the final game of a busy week, the Lady Trojans led by seven at halftime over North Callaway before holding on late for a 46-31 win over the Lady Thunderbirds. Hoyt scored 20 points while Bowers added 10 points. Beamer and Johnson each scored six points while Angel added four points.
