The Community R-VI Lady Trojans picked up their fifth win of the season last week after traveling to Monroe City and leaving with an impressive 61-48 victory. Community R-VI head coach Bob Curtis said Rebecca Hagan was a difference maker in the game as she provided a spark at slow times in the contest. She finished with 10 points, three rebounds, and one steal.
“She continues to improve defensively and guarded a solid post player last night holding her to just six points in the contest, which is about half of her average,” Bob Curtis said.
The Lady Trojans held just a three point lead at halftime before outscoring Monroe City 30-20 on their home court in the second half. The Lady Trojans made just 24-of-34 free throws.
“The girls did a nice job attacking the lane against the Lady Panthers and getting to the free throw line,” Bob Curtis said.
Jett had 26 points, two rebounds, one assist, and one steal while Alissa Curtis had 18 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, three steals, and one block. Danielle Brooks had five points, two steals, two rebounds, and two assists; and Danie Jackson had two points, one rebound, one assist, and one steal.
In a battle between two of the best EMO Conference teams, the Lady Trojans lost to Bowling Green, 57-54. Foul trouble hurt the team after holding an early four point lead. After trailing by nine in the fourth, the Lady Trojans cut the lead to three in the final seconds but couldn’t make the comeback.
“We fell a little short tonight but the girls grinded it out against a solid 3A opponent who is getting better every game.”
Brooks had 22 points, four assists, two rebounds, one steal, and one block while Jett had 22 points, two rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block. Alissa Curtis added seven points, two rebounds, two assists, and one steal; and Chelsea Hoyt had two points and three assists.
