The Community R-VI softball team clashed with North Calla last week and were shutout in their home opener.
“We had a really off night in the field and had a tough time getting things going on offense,” said Community R-VI Head Coach Stacie Carroz.
North Callaway started its attack early. The Lady Thunderbirds scored three runs in the top of the first inning and delivered an additional eight runs in the second inning to hold an 11-0 lead. North Callaway then scored five runs in the fifth inning to end the game at 16-0.
Paige Curtis pitched the five-inning game with eight strikeouts, two walks, one earned run, and six hits.
Katie Carline led the Lady Trojans with on hit, a ground rule double. Community R-VI committed 14 errors in the loss.
Their 14 errors were the second highest total for a game by one team in state history. The previous top two records came in the same game between Ozark and Bolivar as Ozark had 17 errors and Bolivar had 13.
