The Community R-VI Lady Trojans’ softball team had their season come to an end last week after a tough 3-1 loss to Clopton as the school hosted the event.
The Lady Trojans took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning before Clopton added two in the fourth and one in the sixth.
Community R-VI was unable to take advantage of three Lady Hawks’ defensive errors in the loss.
Natalie Thomas had the Lady Trojans’ lone RBI that scored Dalaney Bowers.
Emma Angel picked up the loss in spite of tossing six innings and allowing two earned runs on two hits with five strikeouts and six walks.
The loss meant it was the final game for seniors Maddee Gastler, Taren Clark, Delanie Windmann, and Katie Bertels.
Gastler has been the starting first baseman for two years. She ended the season with the third highest batting average of .412.
Clark has been a four year starter in the outfield.
She was noted for her great range and speed that she was able to cover so much area. She ended the season with a .286 batting average.
Delanie Windmann helped pitched in during an injury for a third baseman due to a concussion. This was her year to hold a position all year long and work her way up into the batting lineup.
She spent the majority of the season up in the lineup and finished with a batting average of .328.
She helped the Lady Trojans’ out in right field with little experience before this year.
Bertels helped the team out a lot in the lineup. She was the DP for a majority of the games along with helping out in the infield when the Lady Trojans would have to move things around. She ended the season with a .292 batting average.
“These girls were a lot of fun to work with for my two years in the program,” said Community R-VI head coach Madison Henke.
“I really enjoyed getting to watch them become leaders and to grow as softball players. I wish them luck in all their future endeavors and hope they come back to cheer on the Lady Trojans as we build the program for next year.”
