The Community R-VI Lady Trojans had a tough task hosting Bowling Green. After all, the Lady Bobcats have three players who are 5’10” or taller while their school size is about five times greater.
In spite of the challenge, the Lady Trojans won two quarters of the game but lost 58-49.
“We played extremely well against a taller Bowling Green team that at times has three girls on the floor at 5’10 or taller,” said Community R-VI head coach Bob Curtis. “I was proud of the effort against a school about five times our size.”
The Lady Trojans made their first four shots from the field and led 17-16 at the end of the first quarter.
Unfortunately, Bowling Green responded with a 17-10 run before halftime for a six-point lead.
The Lady Bobcats took advantage of their great free throw shooting in the game as they made 25-of-29 attempts in the win.
Community R-VI won the fourth quarter but couldn’t get any closer in the nine-point loss.
“We have to wake up tomorrow and shake this one off,” Bob Curtis added. “When they hit five 3’s shooting a high percentage and have that size on the inside they are going to be difficult to beat by anyone.”
Three players scored in double digits for Community R-VI.
Alissa Curtis had 15 points and six rebounds; Natalie Thomas added 10 points, seven rebounds, four assists, three steals, and one block; Sadie Hoyt tallied 10 points and two rebounds; Chelsea Hoyt had five points, two rebounds, and one assist; Danie Jackson added five points, two rebounds, and one steal; both Taren Clark and Bethany Schmidt had two rebounds and one steal; and Morgan Bryant added one rebound.
