The Community R-VI girls basketball team used their solid defensive play to help them to a dominating 65-39 road victory last week in Louisiana.
The Lady Trojans held Louisiana to just six points in the first eight minutes of play.
Community R-VI increased their lead to 37-18 at halftime before cruising in the second half for the 26-point victory.
The Lady Trojans made 13-of-20 free throws and 19-of-46 shots from the field.
“I felt like we made a great effort to make them a half court team,” said Community R-VI head coach Bob Curtis. “…Sam Jackson did a nice job in our man-to-man defense guarding their best player and holding her under her season average.”
Samm Jett made six 3-pointers for 30 points. She also had four rebounds and two steals.
Danielle Brooks had a near triple-double of 10 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, and two steals.
Alissa Curtis scored eight points, four rebounds, and two steals; Rebecca Hagan scored six points and two rebounds; Samantha Jackson tallied four points and four rebounds; Lexus LaGesse scored three points; and both Danie Jackson and Chelsea Hoyt scored two points.
JV girls stun Mexico
The Lady Trojans JV team traveled to Mexico last week and stunned the Lady Bulldogs, 27-26.
The Lady Trojans led for most of the game until late in the fourth quarter.
LaGesse made a big 3-pointer to push the gap to four points. Tayler Cope made a big free throw late to help seal the win.
Community R-VI made 7-of-13 free throws and improved their record to 4-2.
Hoyt scored 14 points, six rebounds, and four assists.
“Chelsea played great, breaking their press and getting into the lane in transition to score before their defense was set,” Bob Curtis said.
LaGesse had eight points and four rebounds; Ivy Stathem added four points and four rebounds; and Cope scored one point and three rebounds.
