Van-Far’s MaKenzie Wallace gets pressure in the Lady Indians’ victory over Elsberry.

The Van-Far Lady Indians are streaking at the right time as they have won three of their past four games.
Van-Far first picked up its second win in three games last week after knocking off Wellsville at home 38-30.The Lady Indians’ defense held Wellsville to six points or less in the first three quarters before holding off a late fourth quarter run for the eight point victory.
“We held off a struggling Wellsville team that competed the entire game,” said Van-Far head coach Blake Logan. “…As a team we came out flat and it gave the Wellsville girls confidence.”
Van-Far led 14-10 at halftime in a low scoring game before pulling away in the third.
Kasey Gatson led the Lady Indians with 16 points; Jenise Johnson scored 14 points; Jessie Fowler had four points; and both Jaselle Brookins and MaKenzie Wallace each scored two points.
“Jenise had another big night offensively, that helped seal the victory,” Logan said.
The Lady Indians continued their run on Monday, February 20 with a 43-33 victory over Elsberry in a game not well played by both teams.
Elsberry led 11-8 before Van-Far scored five points in the final minute of the first quarter to take a 13-11 lead. The Lady Indians extended their run to 10-0 to go up six points as Gatson added two late free throws for a 20-15 halftime edge. Gatson scored 10 of her team-high 14 points in the game in the half.
Van-far made 8-of-24 shots from the field in the first half and just 1-of-7 free throws. MaKenzie Wallace paced Van-Far’s offense in the third quarter as she scored six points and Jessie Fowler added a 3-pointer and five points to push the lead to six heading into the fourth. Elsberry would never get closer as they were outscored 10-6 over the final eight minutes and the Lady Indians won by 10 points.
“This was a night where our role players stepped up,” Logan said. “MaKenzie had 10, Jessie had 10, and we won by 10…”
Gatson finished with 14 points, six assists, six rebounds, and one steal; Wallace had 10 points, four rebounds, two assists, and one steal; Fowler had 10 points, three rebounds, one block, one assist, and one steal; Jenise Johnson added seven points, 12 rebounds, and one steal; Jaselle Brookins had two points, one rebound, one block, and one assist; Brooke Johnson had three rebounds and two steals; and Rachel Nelson had one rebound.
