In a game against the No. 7 state-ranked team in Class 1, the Van-Far Lady Indians basketball team played a solid game but lost their lead late in a 48-44 loss in the Holiday Shootout held at Moberly Area Community College.
After Higbee led by three points at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Indians rallied to take a 25-22 halftime edge.
Higbee took back the lead with less than a minute left in the third quarter and never looked back in the four-point victory.
“We played a pretty solid game for the most part,” said Van-Far head girls basketball coach Kelly Orf. “Did a nice job breaking the press and played good defense. Toward the end of the game we made a few not fundamentally smart decisions and allowed Higbee to take the lead.”
Jayle Jennings led the Lady Indians with a double-double of 16 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
Jayda Borgmeyer added 11 points, five rebounds, three assists, one block, and one steal.
Jordan Garner tallied six points, seven rebounds, and one steal; Reaghan Case tallied six points, three rebounds, two assists, and one steal; Alexis DeTienne had five points, three assists, and two rebounds; Katie Elzea added two rebounds and two steals; while Alex Connaway had two rebounds.
