The Van-Far Lady Indians softball team picked up a pair of tough losses last week after games against Silex and Jefferson City.
In the loss to the Lady Owls, the Lady Indians led 5-3 after four innings before Silex tied the game in the sixth. The contest went into extra innings before Silex scored in their final at-bat for a walk-off, 6-5 win.
“We lost a tough one against Sliex,” said Van-Far head coach Kelly Orf. “We had a few errors in the game and then regained the lead with Garner’s homerun, but couldn’t hang onto it.”
The Lady Owls struck first with three runs in the second inning after taking advantage of two errors and one wild pitch.
Van-Far responded in the third inning with two runs. Jordan Garner had a single and later scored on an error. Madison Orr scored Jayle Jennings on a sacrifice fly for the second run.
In the fourth inning, the Lady Indians added three more runs. Abbi Kuda’s RBI single scored Jayda Borgmeyer for the first run. Garner added a two-run, home run to go ahead 5-3. Silex responded with one run in the bottom of the fifth inning and one in the sixth.
The Lady Owls had three hits that led to the game-winning run in the ninth.
Garner finished with two hits, one home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored in the loss.
Earlier in the week, the Lady Indians dropped a tough game to Jefferson City, 13-1. The Lady Indians’ lone run came in the bottom of the fourth inning on Borgmeyer’s RBI single that scored Orr. Carleigh Phillips, Garner, and Borgmeyer had the lone hits in the loss.
