The Van-Far Lady Indians picked up their lone victory of the week last Friday night as they traveled to Barry, Ill. and left with a 49-41 victory over Western (Ill.). The Lady Wildcats jumped out to a 14-4 first quarter lead. The Lady Indians trailed 25-18 at halftime before rallying in the third quarter to go up one, 35-34.
“The Lady Indians started off kind of slow,” said Van-Far head coach Kelly Borchert. “We weren’t hitting any of our shots. And defensively, we weren’t getting results so we switched things up a bit and our man-to-man defense really caused some problems for Western we were able to get quite a few steals and score on the transition. By getting moving on defense, our offense came alive as well. We started driving the lane and getting the ball inside more.”
Van-Far held on late for the eight point victory.
“It was nice to see these ladies come back from a 10 point deficit and come away with the win to a team that has beaten us by 20 plus the past two years,” Borchert noted.
Jayle Jennings led Van-Far with 24 points, nine rebounds, six steals, five assists, and two blocks; Haley Baskett added 13 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and three steals; Alyse Jensen scored four points two rebounds, one steal, and one assist; Annalynn Culwell had two points, one rebound, and one assist; Aubrey Bunge scored two points, seven rebounds, one steal, and one assist; Devyn Keller had two points, three assists, and one block; and Panna Connaway added two points, two rebounds, one steal, and one assist.
