The Van-Far Lady Indians varsity basketball team is still working on their first win for the season after falling 61-21 to South Shelby on Thursday, December 13.
South Shelby pulled away with a healthy 20-2 lead by the end of the first quarter with Van-Far trailing 38-7 at halftime. The Lady Cardinals were up 41 points by the end of the third quarter. The Lady Indians won the fourth quarter 8-7 but were far from victory.
“We have got to learn how to get back on defense,” Van-Far head coach Asbury said. “As a team we have a lot to work on and it showed in a big way last night.”
Ciara Craven led the Lady Indians with seven points. Abbey Robinson and Sarah Sutton followed, posting four points each.
Breanna Strange had 12 rebounds and Renee Nelson had six rebounds.
Van-Far was 10-for-42 from the field and 0-for-2 from the line.
Defeated by Elsberry
The Lady Indians fell 51-18 against Elsberry on Monday, December 10.
“I feel like we ran the plays better on offense, however, the biggest down fall of the game was boxing out,” Asbury said.
Craven led the squad with nine points and four rebounds; Brooke Johnson tallied four points with 10 rebounds; and Annaliese Hubert had three points and one rebound.
