Lady Indians beat Community R-VI

DSC_0682cIn a match-up of local rivals last Thursday night, the Van-Far Lady Indians softball team scored four runs in two different innings to get past Community R-VI, 11-4.
The Lady Indians picked up the big win in spite of their defense making five errors.
Van-Far scored their first run in the bottom of the first inning when Alexis DeTienne’s sacrifice fly scored Makayla McAfee.
The Lady Trojans responded in their next at-bat as Deann Brooks scored a run on a passed ball. Moments later, Danie Jackson scored on the third Van-Far defensive error in the inning to take a 2-1 lead.
Community R-VI added one more run in the top of the third inning as Brooks scored on yet another Van-Far error for a 3-1 edge.
The Lady Indians responded with DeTienne’s RBI single scoring McAfee. DeTienne then scored the game-tying run on Jayda Borgmeyer’s RBI single. Jordan Garner also scored and Borgmeyer eventually crossed the plate after an error for a 5-3 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Garner’s RBI single scored McAfee. Garner also scored in the inning after Gina Clausen’s single.
The Lady Trojans then cut the lead to 7-4 in the top of the sixth inning as Taren Clark’s RBI single scored Sadie Hoyt.
Van-Far pulled away for good in the bottom half of that inning by scoring four runs.
Reaghan Case’s fielder’s choice scored Jayle Jennings for one run. Borgmeyer then advanced to home on a throw for a run.
DeTienne drew a walk for another RBI and a 10th run. Alivia Graddy later scored on a passed ball.
McAfee finished the game by going 3-for-4 with three hits and three runs scored. DeTienne went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and one run scored.
Garner had one RBI and two runs scored; Borgmeyer scored twice and had two RBIs; Clausen had one RBI; and Case had one RBI and one run scored.
Jennings picked up the complete-game victory after tossing seven innings and allowing no earned runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts.
For Community R-VI, Alissa Curtis went 3-for-3; Clark had two hits and one RBI; Brooks scored two runs; and both Jackson and Hoyt scored one run. Jackson picked up the loss on the mound after allowing nine earned runs on 10 hits with 10 walks and two strikeouts.
