The Ladies’ Auxiliary to VFW Post No. 2173 met on Thursday, November 13, at the post home in Vandalia. Senior Vice President Val Galloway called the 7 p.m. meeting to order and opening ceremonies were observed. The minutes were approved as read for the October meeting. The treasurer reported the current balance with her report being filed for audit.
Correspondence read included a letter from the Department of Missouri President; the Missouri Veterans’ Home Assistance League in Mexico for donations to their general fund for Edward Park and John Fitzgerald; and a letter from Central Bank of Audrain County.
Youth Activities chairperson Joy Davis reported six entries in the Patriots’ Pen essay contest. The winner will be awarded at the spring ceremonies at the school. Community Service chair Ann Wasson recorded the service of members present. Membership chair Val Galloway reported dues still payable for three annual members and two life members.
Proceeds from participation in the Holiday Craft Fest on Saturday, November 22, at Van-Far High School will supplement the Scholarship Fund to be awarded in May 2015 to a Van-Far High School graduate. It was decided to also serve the Nation Auction on Saturday, December 6, with chili and hotdogs. Donations were made to Toys for Tots, Salvation Army, and the Vandalia Area Ministerial Alliance. A decision was made concerning the auxiliary’s banking business.
Closing ceremonies were observed. The seven members attending were Joy Davis, Vivian Davis, Val Galloway, Mary Gramley, Judy Hull, Cindy Pirch, and Ann Wasson
The next auxiliary meeting is Thursday, December 11, at the post home. All members are encouraged to attend.
