Laddonia business set for benefit event

For more than a month, business owner and pastry chef Megan Bass has enjoyed becoming a part of the Laddonia community after she opened the Hard Ride Cafe, Bakery, and Saloon on 1st St.
She’s celebrating that relationship on Saturday, June 14 with her Grand Opening event as 100% of the proceeds benefit the Laddonia Ladybugs Christmas Light Project.
A fried chicken lunch will start being served at noon, prepared by Kenny Schafer. Carry outs will be available.
From 8:30 p.m.-1:30 a.m., “The Hearsay Band” from Quincy, Illinois will perform. There will be drink specials all night long.
“We thought it was a great cause,” said Bass about the Laddonia Ladybugs project. “We hope to see if we can come up with a big check.”
Bass officially took over the location on May 1 and promptly changed the name to change preconceived notions about the location.
“I’m trying to get more churches and families to come because people looked at it as a bar,” she said. “I want them to see the change. We’re just trying to give Laddonia another option as some place to eat…People have been real supportive.”
Bass came across the Laddonia location from her travels through the area. She has family that lives in Monroe City and she is originally from Moberly.
Bass has been in the food service for more than a decade. She’s worked nationwide for the National Park Service. She’s also worked in Las Vegas, Nevada and San Diego, California.
She said the focus of her business is “quality fresh food” and it offers “fair portions for a fair price.”
Bass added that all of the bread is fresh, the burgers are pattied, and the fries are cut.
Some featured items on her menu include Megan’s Philly Cheese Steak, 1/4 lb. Tony Dog with Bacon, Wings, Fish Burger, and other grilled items. There is also a kid’s menu.
Along with several side options, she’s also sharing her pastry talents with a selection of sweets and goodies.
“If people want a baker’s dozen, then $2 pastries become $1.50 each,” she noted, though she requests a one day notice for big orders.
She said she kept her prices reasonable to encourage patrons to visit more than one time per week.
There will be .50 off drinks during Happy Hour as well from 3-6 p.m.
“I take pride in what I do,” she said. “The biggest thing for me is I’m passionate about people. For me this is about being happy.”
The location has underwent several renovations since she took over.
Along with painting the walls and the help of her artistic sister adding unique creations inside the business, a large mirror from the old barbershop in town has also found a home on the wall.
Other amenities at the location include a juke box, pool table, dart board, Missouri Lottery options, and alcohol.
As a big NFL fan, Bass hopes to be open on Sundays starting in August for the first preseason game so patrons can stop by and watch some football.
Hours of operation are 11 a.m.-10 p.m. for food with a midnight or later bar time for closing, Tuesday-Saturday. There will be nightly specials.
