Congratulations to both the Community R-VI boys and girls basketball teams for winning back-to-back district championships after victories this past Saturday in Moberly.
Fans battled through snowy weather and endured through some moments of uncertainty as their favorite teams overcame some struggles on their way to a championship.
No matter what happened on Tuesday night in State Sectionals after press time, both teams have once again had great seasons their fan base, staff, and administration can be proud of.
Hopefully, at least one or both of the teams will be playing again this week in the State Quarterfinals.
I also want to congratulate both the Van-Far boys and girls basketball teams for the way they finished their regular season schedule.
Though both teams failed to advance in districts, each team picked up some big wins down the stretch.
Coaches Pat Connaway and Kelly Orf want their teams to be playing some of their best basketball in the last month of the season.
Both coaches should be proud of the way their young teams played in their final regular season games.
We’re now a little more than two weeks away from the Spring Sports season.
Athletes are beginning practice for the Spring seasons for baseball, golf, as well as track and field.
The Spring season sports do not usually have large attendance at their contests.
These athletes are working hard to represent their schools and I encourage many area residents to consider attending these contests in the next few months.
With some new district alignments, it’s possible one team or teams from either school district could also be ready at making a run for a district title of their own.
I want to wish all of the athletes and coaches the best of luck on their upcoming seasons.
