Kylie Kohl, age 9, displayed her patriotic and community spirit at a gathering and fireworks display for more than 150 family and friends on July 2.
Kylie, the daughter of Mark and Peggy Kohl, of Kirkwood, sang a solo acapella rendition of “God Bless America” for the event held in the parking lot at Chris Kohl’s shop, located southwest of Vandalia.
To celebrate the 4th of July, she wore a red, white, and blue outfit with the words “Be Free” in bold letters on her shirt.
After the group enjoyed fireworks, Kylie did some fundraising for the Vandalia YMCA.
At the suggestion of her uncle Johnny Kohl, of Columbia, she decorated an ice cream bucket and passed it around to collect donations for the proposed YMCA.
Her efforts netted $226 for the project, which was later matched by Mark Kohl’s work, as he is the Vice-President of Drury Development Corp., of St. Louis.
Her parents rounded off the amount helping Kylie’s amazing fundraising efforts reach around the total of $700.
