Johnson retires from Highway Patrol

Class of 1974 Van-Far High School graduate Bruce Johnson has announced his retirement from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Johnson began his career with the Missouri Highway Patrol on July 1, 1987. His first assignment was to Bates County, in Butler, Mo.
Johnson was promoted to Corporal in 1993 and transferred to Jackson County, in the Kansas City area.
In 1996, Johnson was assigned as full-time pilot out of Troop A, Lee’s Summit, Mo. and promoted to Sergeant in 1996 in the pilot position. Johnson served as a pilot for Troop A for over 20 years from which he retired, having logged more than 7,000 flight hours
In addition, Johnson served many extra duties including the  Troop A SWAT team for 13 years, as a troop firearms instructor, on Honor Guard, and Presidential and Governor details.
Johnson is married to Vandalia native, Brenda (Nolan).
He is also the son of Vandalia natives,  the late George Johnson and his mother Carol Johnson. Bruce and Brenda Johnson have two married children, a son and a daughter. The couple also has five grandchildren.
