Johnnie E. Barber, 86, of Linn, Missouri (formerly of Vandalia, Missouri), died Sunday, August 31, 2014, at the Linn Community Skilled Nursing Care facility in Linn, Missouri.
Johnnie was born on January 30, 1928 in LaPlata, Missouri, a son to Wilford and Freta Barber. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilford and Freta Barber; one brother, Norman Barber of Elsberry, Missouri and one sister, Cordelia Barber Huddleston of Louisiana, Missouri.
Johnnie was a lifelong resident of the central Missouri area where he worked as a farmer, business man and was employed by the Audrain County Assessor’s office.
In 1973, he obtained his instrument rating and his love for flying took him to many parts of the country.
He also loved the water and boating. He served in the Army-Air Force in WWII mainly in the European Theater.
Survivors include: one daughter, Pat Hulse and her husband Jim Hulse of Linn, Missouri; one son, Bobby Barber and his wife Carol Barber of Kirksville, Missouri; one sister, Rita Andress and her husband Dick Andress of Pittsfield, Illinois; six grandchildren, Ashley Robertson and her husband Jacob Robertson of Jefferson City, Missouri; Kayla Hulse of Linn, Missouri; Tony Barber and his wife Becky Barber of New Haven, Missouri; Curtis Barber and his wife Laura Barber of Troy, Missouri; Tim Barber and his wife Diane of Troy, Missouri and Brent Barber of Elsberry, Missouri; seven great-grandchildren, Erissa and Liam Robertson of Jefferson City, Missouri; Leshia Abernathy of Linn, Missouri; Sam and Katie Barber of Troy, Missouri; Gabe and Donnie Barber of Troy, Missouri; Kelsey Barber of Gasconade, Missouri; Eley Barber of New Haven, Missouri; one step great-granddaughter, Abbie Helfrich of New Haven, Missouri and one great-great grandchild, Colten Barber of Gasconade, Missouri.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews in Illinois and Missouri.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
