John “Whimpy” Butler, 58, of Frankford, died at 9:26 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014, at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kan.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 3, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Grand View Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4, at the Grand View Funeral Home in Hannibal. Pastor Richard Epperson will officiate. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Frankford.
John was born on Oct. 27, 1956, in Louisiana, the son of Glen Clifford and Betty Jean Hutcherson Butler. He married Cheryl Miller on Dec. 30, 1977 at the Solid Rock Baptist Church in Rennselaer.
His parents, his wife, a brother – Glen “Sonny” Butler, three brothers-in-law: Danny Pursifull, Wayne Miller, and Lowell Miller, a grandchild, Kylee Butler, a nephew, Tom Gibbons Jr., a great niece, Mia Mayfield, a close friend, Phil Stephens, and from his second family, Mark Moran, preceded him in death.
He is survived by one daughter, Lynn (Austin) Henderson of Frankford; one son, Bobbey (Janetta) Butler of Louisiana, his mother-in-law, Yvonne Miller, of New London, a sister, Mary (Tom) Gibbons, of Frankford, 13 grandchildren: Sydney Cook, Jameson White, Ryleigh Butler, Baylee Butler, Nick Taylor, Tiffany Nightingale, Brent Dove, Tanner Henderson, Kylee Moran, Kyler Moran, Rylie Moran, Dakota Moran, and Matthew Moran Jr., two great-grandchildren: Trent and Alyssah Nightingale, three brother-in-laws: Marvin (Vicki) Miller, Gary (Lori) Miller, and Darrell Miller, seven sisters-in-law: Rita Pursifull, Connie Miller, Debbie Miller, Bonnie (Alvin) Richards, Paula (Johnny) Nelson, Laura Miller, and Dori (Michael) Miller, a significant other, Glenda Moran and her son, Matt (Maria) Moran, 25 nephews and nieces, 31 great nephews and nieces, and three great- great nephews and nieces.
Pallbearers will be Mike Culweol, Gary Moore, Raymond Reed, Shannon “Grubby” Smith, John “Buckwheat” Hennessy, and Doran Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Trenton Miller, Scott Miller, Donny Wayne Miller, Keith Richards, Justin Edmond, Josh Edmond, Callen Gibbons, Cory Richards, Chris Miller, Royce Miller, Cliff Gibbons, Clifford Gibbons Jr., Hunter Gibbons, and Michael Flowerree.
Whimpy was a volunteer for the Frankford Fire Department for many years before becoming Chief in 2007. He was also a member of the Firefighters Association of Missouri. John was baptized at the Solid Rock Church in Rennselear. Memorials may be made to The Frankford Fire Department or the American Heart Association.
